Nature Palace

Vinyl print on column, Broadway Shopping Centre

Four panels, each measuring 60cm x 400cm

In July 2016 Victoria was commissioned to create ‘Nature Palace' a public artwork for Broadway Shopping Centre, for MIRVAC in collaboration with Art Pharmacy.

Architecture has long been a symbol of power and status. 'Nature Palace' takes inspiration from traditional ornament adorning grand structures and monuments of various world cultures. Intricately hand drawn plants and animals intertwine to create a'neo tapestry' - exploring ideas of interconnectedness, diversity, dominance and reverence of the environment. 'Nature Palace' reflects on the complicated relationship between the natural and manmade world.

This artwork drew inspiration from the ancient tapestry art form, appearing in many cultures to adorn grand houses, monuments and palaces.

It explores the duality between the natural and artificial on various levels.

On each panel, an almost encyclopaedic depiction of intricately placed flora and fauna – including flowers, birds, snakes, insects and other wild animals – mirror each other in constellations, and will envelope the architecture in a bid to highlight man’s relationship with nature.
